About CA Foundation

CA Foundation serves as the entry level for the Chartered Accountancy course in India, offered by ICAI. Formerly known as the Common Proficiency Test (CPT), it remains the initial step in the journey toward becoming a Chartered Accountant.

CA Foundation Eligibility

The candidate can register for the Foundation after passing class-Xth. However candidates can appear in foundation exam after qualifying the 12th examinations

NOTE:- ICAI has allowed provisional registration for 10th class passed students.


Candidates who are Graduates, Post Graduates and have Equivalent degree are Exempt from CA Foundation Exam and can take Direct entry for CA Intermediate ( Commerce graduated with 55% and others graduated with 60% marks )

Students who want to pursue Foundation Courses have to register online for the course Last Date of Registration or admission for Foundation Course with ICAI

  • For May term examination- 31st Dec
  • For November term examination- 30th June

Registration Fee

  • Registration Fee for Foundation Course Rs. 9,200.
  • Foundation course registration will be valid for three years. Even after three years, you can revalidate your registration for a further three years by depositing Rs 300/- as revalidation fees.

The syllabus for the CA Foundation Course is divided into four papers, comprising both subjective and objective tests, totaling 400 marks.

  • Paper-1: Principles and Practices of Accounting. (100 – Marks)
  • Paper-2: Business Laws and Business Correspondence and Reporting. (100 – Marks)
  • Paper-3: Business Mathematics and Logical Reasoning & Statistics. (100 – Marks)
  • • Paper-4: Business Economics & Business and Commercial Knowledge. (100 – Marks)

NOTE :-The above two papers (Paper 1 & 2) are subjective while the later two Paper (Paper 3 & 4) are objective. Objective papers contain negative marking for each wrong answer 0.25 mark gets deducted and for each correct answer one mark is given

Passing Criteria

A Student of CA foundation examination shall be declared to have passed the examination if he secures minimum 40% marks on each paper and an aggregate of 50%(200/400) of total marks.
