Old course of CA Foundation
The Foundation Course is the entry-level program for the Chartered Accountancy Course. Here are the key points regarding the CA Foundation Course:
Eligibility for Registration:
- Students who have passed the Class X examination conducted by an examining body recognized by law in India or an examination acknowledged by the Central Government as equivalent can register for the Foundation Course.
- Students can appear for the Foundation Examination after completing the senior secondary (10+2) examination conducted by a recognized examining body in India or an examination recognized by the Central Government as equivalent.
- Registered students must complete a minimum of 4 months of study from the date of registration to be eligible for the Foundation Examination. For example, students registered on or before July 1st or January 1st will be eligible to appear in the May or November examination, respectively.
Exemptions:
- Graduates/Post Graduates who meet the prescribed percentage of marks or equivalent grade in examinations conducted by recognized universities (including Open University), or Intermediate level examination passed students of The Institute of Cost Accountants of India or The Institute of Company Secretaries of India are exempted from passing the Foundation Course. Such students can directly register for the Intermediate Course.
Foundation Course Structure:
- The Foundation Course consists of four papers, with two being subjective and two being objective type papers.
- Negative marking is applicable to objective papers.
Examination Schedule:
- Foundation Examinations are conducted twice a year, in May and November.
- Notifications and announcements regarding the conduct of the Foundation Examination are published on the Institute’s website and in newspapers.
- After registering for the Foundation Course, students must also fill a separate application form to appear in the Foundation Examination.
Registration Validity:
- Foundation Course registration is valid for 3 years and can be revalidated multiple times for an additional 3-year period by paying the revalidation fee set by the Council.
Subjects Covered in Foundation Course:
- Paper-1: Principles and Practice of Accounting (100 Marks)
- Paper-2: Business Law & Business Correspondence and Reporting (100 Marks)
- Section A: Business Law (60 Marks)
- Section B: Business Correspondence and Reporting (40 Marks)
- Paper-3: Business Mathematics and Logical Reasoning & Statistics (100 Marks)
- Part I: Business Mathematics and Logical Reasoning (60 Marks)
- Part II: Statistics (40 Marks)
- Paper-4: Business Economics & Business and Commercial Knowledge (100 Marks)
- Part I: Business Economics (60 Marks)
- Part II: Business and Commercial Knowledge (40 Marks)
- Paper-3 and Paper-4 are objective type papers with negative marking.
Passing Criteria:
- To pass the Foundation Examination, a candidate must obtain a minimum of 40% marks in each paper and a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate of all papers, subject to the principle of negative marking.
The Foundation Course is the initial step in the journey to becoming a Chartered Accountant and is designed to provide candidates with a strong foundation in the required subjects.
